LzLabs joins the Microsoft Platform Modernization Alliance

LzLabs’ Software Defined Mainframe provides a reliable route for customers to re-host legacy COBOL and PL/I applications on the Microsoft Azure Cloud

Zurich, 11 July 2017 – LzLabs today announced that it has joined the Microsoft Platform Modernization Alliance, a community where members can collaborate to make application and database migrations to the Microsoft Application Platform easier and more effective.

The alliance will introduce LzLabs to a global community of legacy modernization providers seeking to revolutionise their and their customers’ infrastructure. It will also display the combination of Microsoft’s expertise in enterprise-class cloud software and hardware solutions with the LzLabs Software Defined Mainframe® (SDM) – a software container which enables organisations to re-host COBOL or PL/I applications on the Azure Cloud (or x86 servers) without any code recompilation.

As a new member, LzLabs will have a forum to work with an even wider array of partners and customers seeking to re-host legacy applications and data in the Cloud. This approach, already taken up by Swiss telecoms giant Swisscom, solves the IT conundrum faced by over 3000 of the world’s largest companies, many of which have no escape from expensive and outdated application architectures. It also enables organisations to take advantage of the innovation benefits of Linux and hybrid cloud models, whilst ensuring they don’t remain reliant on a diminishing pool of mainframe experts.

“Cloud is the new standard in enterprise computing, and many of the world’s largest and oldest organisations are often prevented from adoption due to outdated legacy systems running business critical applications,” said Bob Ellsworth, director, Enterprise Modernization & Azure HiPo Program at Microsoft. “We recognise this demand, and are delighted to welcome LzLabs into the Microsoft Platform Modernization Alliance, to address the need for a simple and effective solution to re-hosting legacy COBOL and PL/I applications on the Microsoft Azure Cloud.”
