LzEnable™ is a service to help customers deploy a fully-functional pre-production environment on SDM.
Based on a test-driven method of rehosting mainframe workload, LzEnable uses the deliverable from LzDiscover™ to ensure migration challenges are identified quickly and priorities established. LzEnable also defines modern infrastructure options to replace expensive legacy implementations.
Supported by LzLabs or one of our accredited delivery Partners, customer application owners will define unit test cases and gather test data, application export and unit test capture for running on SDM. During this phase, all data and application artefacts are gathered from the customer’s legacy mainframe environment using LzLabs Centrepiece Export utility (LzCPX)
All artefacts gathered during unit testing are run in-house to ensure we have an accurate baseline implementation of the source environment. The goal of this phase is to ensure we have all artefacts necessary to create a fully functional SDM environment on which to run customer workload.
SDM Prototype Creation
An initial prototype for the workload to be rehosted will be created in-house at LzLabs. The deliverable for this phase will be a working prototype, running on SDM, that passes all the developed unit test cases.
In parallel with unit testing, parallel running and prototype creation, LzLabs configures all system functionality to ensure a seamless transfer of a customer’s mainframe production environment to SDM. Processes include:
- Security analysis and migration
- SDM architecture development
- Data migration modelling
- Administrative workload modelling
- Pre-production machine configuration
- Batch scheduler migration
- System test infrastructure
LzLabs will guide the customer through every step of pre-production testing to ensure that workloads run successfully on SDM. Full test tooling is provided to ensure seamless system test infrastructure, customer system & user acceptance testing, and integration of new applications into change management software cycles and DevOps tool chains.
As part of the LzEnable service, and at no extra charge, LzLabs will assist the customer with the final move of this pre-production environment to Production, should the customer elect to do so. This final step will include a restaging of the production data, and on-site support during the cutover.
As part of rehosting to SDM, the customer’s IT administrative staff will take part in thorough education including classroom sessions and hands-on workshops. Subjects covered include:
- Discovery of applications (understanding workflow and architecture)
- Debugging and diagnostics of SDM
- Administration & Configuration of SDM
- Data Migration to SDM
- Test tooling for capture, comparison replay, and re-instantiation of data
