Mainframe applications running with the Software Defined mainframe (SDM) are now available on ordinary Linux computers. The Zurich-based company, LzLabs, today announced the availability of its x86 mainframe environment Gotthard. Gotthard provides a container that mimics the mainframe behavior, translated into Linux system calls. This allows COBOL and PL / I applications that were written for the IBM mainframes (z-series), to run directly.
