Legacy Workload Rehosting

Rehosting mainframe workloads on open systems enables organizations to move critical business functions to modern environments. By rehosting legacy workloads on the LzLabs Software Defined Mainframe® (SDM), organizations can reduce the risks of migration, keep critical systems running and take the first step on a graceful mainframe modernization journey.

Reduced Migration Risk

By moving mainframe applications and data incrementally to x86 platforms and the cloud, without recompilation or data reformatting, LzLabs significantly reduces the risks associated with migration. This approach preserves the enormous investment made in legacy record applications, removes the risks of data migration to different encoding mechanisms and ensures seamless interoperability.

Data previously stored in mainframe formats such as Db2® and IMS™DB are moved, without reformatting, to PostgreSQL, opening mainframe data to modern analytics tools.

RAS requirements

Reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) traits are sustained, as applications and data are moved to x86 and cloud platforms, including AWS and Microsoft Azure, designed to support modern enterprise workload at scale.

The Power of Open

Applications and data are liberated to an environment where open-source tools can now be used to maintain and modernize your mainframe portfolio. Examples include:

  • Leveraging the development and scaling benefits of containers
  • Introducing DevOps tools to legacy applications
  • Cloud exploitation
  • Real-time analytics
  • Security

Attracting a Modern Workforce

One of the largest drivers behind mainframe rehosting projects is the impending skills crisis facing organizations whose legacy systems are serviced by a diminishing talent pool. When customer applications are rehosted on SDM, the fundamental operating architecture becomes accessible to a modern workforce.
