LzLabs, from Wallisellen, has developed a methodology that can inexpensively migrate mainframe applications to x86 Linux platforms. The highlight: the compiled COBOL/legacy programs, some 30 to 40 years old, may be transferred unchanged.
The core systems of banks and insurance companies run on mainframes. Even if you book a flight, in most cases the services of a mainframe were used to complete the transaction. Although the old systems are reliable, the applications programmed in COBOL or PL/1 are often 30, 40, or even 50 years old. In some cases, the compilers no longer exist.
